Summary:

Georgia is (6-1) to start the season with wins over Austin Peay, #24 South Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Missouri, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.  Their lone defeat was a 36-16 road loss to #13 LSU.  Georgia is coming off their bye week and have had two weeks to prepare for Florida. The Bulldogs rank 18th in points per game (39.0) and 13th in scoring defense (16.3 PPG).  Quarterback Jake Fromm has completed 66% of his passes for 1,409 yards with 13 touchdowns to 4 interceptions.  Georgia has had great success running the football averaging an impressive 5.8 yards per carry.  The backfield duo of Elijah Holyfield and D’Andre Smith have combined to rush for 850 yards and 8 touchdowns.  The Bulldogs’ defense ranks 15th against the pass (174.3 YPG) and 40th against the run (136.3 YPG).

Florida is (6-1) to start the season with victories over Charleston Southern, Colorado State, Tennessee, #23 Mississippi State, #5 LSU, and Vanderbilt.  Their only defeat was a 27-16 home loss to the Kentucky Wildcats in week two.  Florida is riding high and has been playing great football during their current five-game winning streak.  The Gators rank 35th in points per game (34.4) and 15th in scoring defense (16.6 PPG).  Quarterback Felipe Franks has completed 56% of his passes for 1,406 yards with 15 touchdowns to 5 interceptions.  Florida has a pair of running backs that have rushed for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns in Jordan Scarlett and Lamical Perine.  The Gators’ defense ranks 6th against the pass (160.1 YPG) and 73rd against the run (163.1 YPG).  Florida’s turnover margin (+1.0) ranks 11th in the nation.

Bottom Line:

This is a vital matchup in the SEC with playoff implications on the line.  This is essentially a home game for the Gators with the neutral field being in Jacksonville.  Georgia will come out with something to prove coming off their only loss and having two weeks to prepare for Florida.  For Georgia, I’m going to chalk up the LSU game as an anomaly when they turned the ball over four times and allowed nearly 300 rushing yards.  This should be a very tightly contested game, but I’m taking Jake Fromm and Bulldogs by a field goal.

Georgia wins 27-24
