On Tuesday, December 12th, the (13-12) Philadelphia 76ers will be on the road to take on the (15-11) Minnesota Timberwolves.

Summary:

The Timberwolves are (5-5) in their last ten games.  Minnesota has been one of the most potent offensive teams in the NBA this season but have really struggled on the defensive end.  Karl Anthony-Towns (19.8 PPG and 11.6 RPG) is having a terrific season shooting 52.7% from the field and 36.7% from three.  Jimmy Butler’s numbers are down a tick (18.9 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 4.8 APG) from the form that saw him make three straight all-star games for Chicago.  Minnesota has done a great job eliminating turnovers and executing in the half court.  The Timberwolves are one of the most athletic teams in the league yet they rank dead last in opponent field goal percentage (48.3%).  The Timberwolves average 107.5 points per game (9th) while allowing 106.8 (18th).

Philadelphia is (5-5) in their last ten games and are currently riding a three-game losing streak.  The 76ers are certainly trusting the process under head coach Brett Brown as their young players begin to flourish.  Joel Embiid (23.5 PPG and 11.1 RPG) can make a case as the best big man in the NBA.  The 76ers are being mindful of Embiid’s minutes after two injury plagued seasons.  Ben Simmons (17.7 PPG, 9.5 RPG, and 7.5 APG) is the front runner for Rookie of the Year after missing all of last season with injury.  Philadelphia leads the league in rebounding (49.1 RPG) but rank dead last in turnovers 16.9 TPG).  The 76ers average 108.0 points per game (8th) and allow 108.0 PPG (24th).

Bottom Line:

Philadelphia is (3-2) in their last five head to head games with Minnesota.  The athleticism of the Timberwolves could force Philadelphia into more turnovers than they are accustomed to.  Embiid and Towns will cancel each other out and Minnesota has the better supporting cast.  I like the Timberwolves to win at home where they are (8-4).
