Overview:

On Tuesday, November 14th, the (7-4) Toronto Raptors will be on the road to take on the (10-3) Houston Rockets.

The Crowd:

“The Crowd” is projecting a final score of Rockets 108.0 – Raptors 102.0 with an over/under of 210.0.

Statistics (2017-18 season):

Point differential: Rockets +6.4 (3rd) > Raptors +4.9 (5th)

Points per game: Rockets 110.5 (5th) > Raptors 110.1 (7th)

Points allowed per game: Rockets 104.1 (10th) > Raptors 105.2 (14th)

Field Goal Percentage Offense: Raptors 47.1% (7th) > Rockets 45.8% (14th)

Three Point Percentage: Rockets 34.0% (22nd) > Raptors 33.0% (27th)

Field Goal Percentage Defense: Rockets 46.1% (20th) > Raptors 46.6% (23rd)

Turnovers committed per game: Raptors 13.6 (3rd) > Rockets 16.1 (23rd)

Turnovers forced per game: Raptors 16.2 (6th) > Rockets 15.1 (15th)

Rebounds per game: Rockets 43.8 (15th) > Raptors 41.9 (24th)

Assists per game: Raptors 22.4 (12th) > Rockets 21.9 (17th)

Summary:

The Raptors are (7-4) on the season but just (3-3) on the road.  Demar Derozan is certainly playing at an all-star level averaging 24.7 PPG on 46.7% shooting.  Kyle Lowry has been a disappointment one year into his $100 million extension.  Lowry is averaging his lowest point total (12.9) in five seasons and is shooting just 40.9% from the field.  The Raptors have been efficient offensively despite not shooting the ball well from the perimeter.  Toronto’s low turnover total is certainly one of their strengths but defensively they’ve taken a step back from previous years.

Houston sits atop the Western Conference with a (10-3) record but Houston is just (3-2) at home.  Chris Paul has been sidelined with an injury since the first game but Houston keeps on rolling.  James Harden is playing at an MVP level once again averaging 29.9 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 10.0 APG.  The Rockets are usually one of the most potent scoring teams in the league but surprisingly they rank top ten defensively (104.1 PPG allowed).  After setting records for three point makes last season, the Rockets are struggling to shoot from the outside (34.0%).

Bottom Line:

The Rockets have won four of their last six head to head meetings with the Raptors.  If the Rockets are hitting from the outside the Raptors won’t be able to keep up because they simply don’t have the shooters.  Even without Chris Paul, the Rockets are playing  well, and I expect them to win this one at home.
