On Saturday, February, 6th at 7:00 P.M. the #2 North Carolina Tar Heels will be on the road to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  “The Crowd” projects a final score of North Carolina 73.0 – Baylor 71.0 with an over/under of 144.  The Tar Heels are (19-3) on the season whereas the Fighting Irish are (15-6).  Kansas has signature wins over two ranked teams: Maryland and UCLA.  Their ranked losses came against Northern Iowa and #19 Louisville.  Notre Dame has one signature win over then #9 ranked Duke.  They lost to ranked #5 Virginia and #24 Pittsburg while also losing to unranked Alabama, Monmouth, and Syracuse.

Scoring Margin: North Carolina +14.6 (10th) Notre Dame +10.3 (51st)

Points per game: North Carolina 84.9 (8th) Notre Dame 78.9 (60th)

Points allowed per game: Notre Dame 69.4 (tied for 126th) North Carolina 70.2 (tied for 147th)

Field Goal Percentage Offense: Notre Dame 49.6% (10th) North Carolina 47.9% (26th)

Three Point Percentage: Notre Dame 38.6% (29th) North Carolina 30.2% (tied for 324th)

Free Throw Percentage: North Carolina 72.9% (58th) Notre Dame 72.3% (81st)

Field Goal Percentage Defense: North Carolina 42.1% (tied for 114th) Notre Dame 42.7% (143rd)

Turnovers committed per game: Notre Dame 9.5 (tied for 3rd) North Carolina 10.8 (26th)

Turnovers forced per game: North Carolina 14.4 (73rd) Notre Dame 10.9 (334th)

Rebounds per game: North Carolina 41.4 (20th) Notre Dame 36.1. (192nd)

Assists per game: North Carolina 18.5 (7th) Notre Dame 14.5 (106th)

These two teams are pretty evenly matched statistically.  North Carolina holds a distinct advantage in rebounding and do a better job of sharing the ball on offense.  Though Notre Dame really takes care of the ball on offense, they struggle to force turnovers on the other end.  North Carolina’s major weakness is their three point shooting but they score the majority of their buckets in the paint.  I like North Carolina to win a close one on the road.
