On Sunday, February 4^th, the Philadelphia Eagles will be on the road to take on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Summary:

The Patriots staged an epic fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-20 in the AFC Championship Game.  Surprisingly, the Jaguars outgained the Patriots 374-344 in total yardage, won the turnover battle, and had more time of possession.  Tom Brady was able to overcome a hand injury to go 26-38 for 290 yards and two touchdowns.  The Patriots running game was largely ineffective totaling 46 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries (2.4 average).  Brandin Cooks had 100 yards receiving while Danny Amendola hauled in both of Brady’s touchdown passes.  The Patriots defense held Leonard Fournette to 76 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries (3.2 average).  Blake Bortles played very well throwing for nearly 300 yards and a touchdown.  Brady was masterful down the stretch guiding his team to 14 fourth quarter points to seal the game.

The Eagles went on the road and demolished the Minnesota Vikings 38-7 in the NFC Championship Game.  The Eagles outgained the Vikings 456-333 in total yardage and dominated the time of possession.  After pulling off the last second miracle against the Saints, the Vikings played their worst game of the season.  Nick Foles, filling in for the injured Carson Wentz, was tremendous once again going 26-33 for 352 yards and three touchdowns.  The Eagles were able to grind out 110 rushing yards and a touchdown on 30 carries (3.7 average).  Alshon Jeffery had a nice game with 5 catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns.  Philadelphia’s defense was flat out dominant holding the Vikings to 7 points and forcing three turnovers.

Bottom Line:

The Eagles continue to defy all odds by reaching the Super Bowl even after Carson Wentz suffered a season ending ACL injury.  Nick Foles deserves a lot of credit for keeping the ship afloat but the Eagles defense has carried them all season.  Foles was flawless against a great Minnesota defense but has been very inconsistent since taking over the starting quarterback role.  The Patriots are nearly unbeatable in the playoffs having won ten of their last eleven postseason games.  Look for both teams to air it out and I anticipate a relatively high scoring game.  It’s nearly impossible to pick against Bill Belichick and Tom Brady given their track record, so I expect them to come out victorious once again.
