Strength of schedule:
Tennessee is (2-0) with wins over Georgia Tech and Indiana State. Florida is (0-1) after losing to Michigan in week one.
Summary:
Tennessee has scored 42 points in each of their first two games but haven’t played against quality competition. The Volunteers gave up 41 points to Georgia Tech in week one and nearly lost that game in overtime. Tennessee defeated Florida 38-28 last season but that game was in Knoxville. The Volunteers lost a lot of talent on defense from last year’s team and have yet to prove they can stop the run. Offensively, Tennessee has nice balance but they lack the explosive skill players that Florida has.
Florida should be well rested for this game having the week off due to Hurricane Irma. In week one Florida’s offense really struggled and were man-handled at the line of scrimmage against Michigan. Ten Florida players were suspended including top running back Jordan Scarlett and top receiver Antonio Callaway. The Gators inability to run the football was surprising but the loss of Scarlett left them thin at the position. Florida needs to settle on a quarterback as both Malik Zaire and Feleipe Franks saw action against the Wolverines. I think Florida will get back to the power running game against a Tennessee defense that is allowing over 300 yards on the ground.
Bottom Line:
With two weeks to prepare for this game, I expect Florida to come out strong and look to run the football against a Tennessee defense that has been unable to stop it. Florida will get all of their suspended players back and their offense should look much better. I’m picking the Gators to win at home by double digits.
