Strength of schedule:

Oklahoma is (8-1) with wins over UTEP, Ohio State, Tulane, Baylor, Texas, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State.  Their lone defeat came against Iowa State.  TCU is (8-1) with wins over Jackson State, Arkansas, SMU, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Kansas State, Kansas, and Texas.  Ironically, their only loss was also against Iowa State.

Summary:

Oklahoma came out victorious in a 62-52 road shoot-out against rival Oklahoma State.  Oklahoma outgained Oklahoma State 785-661 in total yardage and won the possession battle by ten minutes.  Quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph went toe to toe and put on a show.  Mayfield cemented his Heisman case going 24-36 for 598 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions.  The Sooners rushing attack combined for 187 yards and three touchdowns on 40 carries (4.7 average).  Marquise Brown was a monster game with nine catches for 265 yards and two touchdowns.  Oklahoma’s defense was shredded by Mason Rudolph but they did manage to force three critical turnovers that changed momentum.  Oklahoma ranks 1st in total offense (608.0 YPG) and 3rd in points per game (45.0).  The Sooners rank 75th in scoring defense (28.2 PPG).

TCU was able to hold off Texas for a 24-7 home victory.  TCU outgained Texas 343-263 in total yardage.  Kenny Hill was largely ineffective in the passing game going 18-26 for 146 yards.  The Horned Frogs ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns on 46 carries (3.8 average).  TCU’s defense was dominant once again holding Texas under 300 yards and just seven points. TCU ranks 38th in total offense (435.0 YPG) and 26th in points per game (35.8).  The Horned Frogs rank 6th in scoring defense (13.9 PPG).

Bottom Line:

The Sooners have the most explosive offense in college football and have scored over 40 points in three straight games.  TCU is one of the better defensive teams in the country having held four straight opponents to fewer than ten points.  The Horned Frogs lead the nation in defending the run (69.7 YPG).  Mayfield will have to beat TCU through the air which is really the strength of their offense anyway.  This will be a close game but Mayfield will prove why having an elite quarterback makes all the difference.
