Summary:

The Cubs enter the game 16th in the league in runs per game (4.68) and 8th in team earned run average (4.03).  St. Louis ranks 20th in runs per game (4.54) and 5th in team ERA (3.88).  The Cubs are (7-3) in their last ten games while the Cardinals are (6-4).  Chicago has dominated the season series going (6-3) against the Cardinals despite both teams scoring exactly 32 runs in those nine games.  Cubs starter Jake Arrieta (9-7, 4.17) has not pitched like an ace this season but has allowed three or fewer runs in his last three starts.  Arrieta has pitched well against the Cardinals this season holding them to a combined .220 average against.

St. Louis will have their ace Carlos Martinez (6-8, 3.36) on the mound.  The Cubs are hitting a combined .249 against Martinez.  Anthony Rizzo is a player to watch with three home runs in 30 at-bats against Martinez.  Martinez only receives 3.9 runs per game when he pitches which is the 11th lowest in the MLB.  Chicago is (24-20) at home this season whereas St. Louis is (20-23) on the road.  These two teams tend to play close low-scoring games and I anticipate more of the same with two great pitchers facing off.  I like the Cubs to win this one at home and maintain their success against the Cardinals this season.
