Summary:

The Mariners enter the game 11th in the league in runs per game (4.76) and 15th in team earned run average (4.40).  The Royals rank 23rd in runs per game (4.35) and 10th in team ERA (4.17).  Both teams are playing well having gone (7-3) in their last ten games.  Kansas City is (3-0) against the Mariners this season outscoring them 19-10 in those games.  The Mariners will have Felix Hernandez (5-4, 4.28) on the mound but he hasn’t pitched up to his potential this season.  The Royals have had success against Hernandez hitting a combined .275 off the righty.  Hernandez has struggled (1-2, 5.40) on the road thus far.

Royals starter Danny Duffy (7-6, 3.42) has pitched very well this season but injuries have kept his innings down.  The Mariners are hitting a combined .250 against Duffy.  Duffy (3-3, 2.93) has been excellent at Kauffman Stadium this season.  It’s also important to note that Duffy is (2-1, 2.36) since the All-Star break.  Kansas City is (30-23) at home this year whereas Seattle is (23-26) on the road.  Kansas City has been playing great since the break and I expect them to win a low scoring game.
