Summary:

The Eagles finished 2016 with a (7-9) record and fell short of reaching the postseason.  Philadelphia’s (+36) point differential ranked 10th in the NFL.  It was quite the up and down season for rookie Carson Wentz but he showed all the tools to be a franchise quarterback.  The Eagles were one of the best teams at taking the football away but Wentz (23) was a turnover machine himself.  The signing of Alshon Jeffery should give the Wentz a go to target that simply wasn’t there last season.  The Eagles were one of the worst teams at running the football in 2016 but the signing of LaGarrette Blount should be a huge help.  Blount rushed for nearly 1,200 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Patriots last year.  The Eagles should be improved on the offense and loaded up on defense in the draft.  Derek Barnett should make an immediate impact along a loaded defensive line.  The big question for the Eagles will be can Wentz make the second-year leap into stardom?

Washington finished the 2016 season with a (8-7-1) record and just missed out on the playoffs.  The Redskins (+13) ranked 17th in point differential.  Kirk Cousins had a career season throwing for nearly 5,000 yards and 25 touchdowns.  The Redskins lost their top two wide receivers (Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon) who both amassed over 1,000 yards.  Washington got a coup signing free agent Terrelle Pryor to a cheap one-year deal.  A healthy Jordan Reed could make a case as the best tight end in the league.   First round pick Jonathan Allen should be a force in the middle of the defensive line in year one.  The Redskins were one of the most prolific offensive units last year but will need to see significant improvement from their defense to make a run at the playoffs.

Bottom Line:

These teams are very evenly matched so I anticipate this being a close game.  I think Washington’s defense can force Wentz to turn the ball over a few times and that will be the difference.
