Overview:

On Thursday, October 12th, the (4-1) Philadelphia Eagles will be on the road to take on the (4-1) Carolina Panthers.

The Crowd:

“The Crowd” is projecting a final score of Panthers 25.5 – Eagles 23.6 with an over/under of 49.2.

2017-18 Statistics (32 total teams):

Yards per game: Eagles 397.8 (3rd) > Panthers 327.2 (18th)

Points per game: Eagles 27.4 (6th) > Panthers 21.0 (18th)

Turnover margin: Eagles +2 > Panthers -4

Fewest yards allowed per game: Panthers 274.0 (3rd) > Eagles 346.0 (22nd)

Fewest Points allowed per game: Panthers 18.8 (9th) > Eagles 19.8 (13th)

Summary:

The Panthers were able to hold off the Lions in an impressive 27-24 road victory.  The Panthers outgained the Lions 362-242 in total yardage.  Cam Newton was tremendous going 26-33 for 355 yards and three touchdowns.  The Panthers rushing attack was dismal recording 28 yards on 28 carries.  Ed Dickson had a monster game with 175 yards receiving.  Carolina’s defense has been a top ten unit all season.  The Panthers (+11) rank 12th in the NFL in point differential.

The Eagles were dominant in their 34-7 home victory over the Arizona Cardinals.  The Eagles outgained the Cardinals 419-307 in total yardage.  Carson Wentz was sensational going 21-30 for 304 yards with four touchdowns and one interception.  The Eagles running game combined for 122 yards on 33 carries.  Philadelphia’s defense completely shut down the Arizona running game and made them one dimensional.  The Eagles (+38) rank 3rd in the NFL in point differential.

Bottom Line:

The Eagles are off to a fast start this season but they have really taken advantage of an easy schedule thus far.  Philadelphia might be without their Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson who is in concussion protocol.  The Panthers have the league’s 5th best defense against the pass so they could make life tough for Carson Wentz.  Meanwhile, Cam Newton is rounding back into the form that once made him the league’s most valuable player.  I like Carolina to win this one at home by a field goal.
