Summary:
Ohio State is coming off their bye week and have had two weeks to prepare for Penn State. Ohio State ranks 3rd in total offense (577.0 YPG) and 2nd in points per game (47.3). The Buckeyes rank 10th in scoring defense (15.4 PPG). Penn State is coming off an impressive 42-13 home victory over the Michigan Wolverines. It was a dominating performance as Penn State outgained Michigan 506-269 in total yardage. Trace McSorely was 17-26 for 282 yards with one touchdown and one interception. McSorely also carried the ball 11 times for 76 yards and three touchdowns. Saquon Barkley ran for 108 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries (7.2 average). Barkley also caught three passes for 53 yards and a touchdown. Penn State defeated Ohio State 24-21 at home last year on a last second field goal. Penn State ranks 27th in total offense (463.0 YPG) and 16th in points per game (40.0). The Nittany Lions rank 1st in scoring defense (9.6 PPG).
Bottom Line:
Ohio State has scored 50 points in four straight games albeit against so-so competition. J.T. Barrett is rounding into form after some early season struggles. This is a must win for the Buckeyes and could thrust them right back into playoff contention. Penn State has the best defense in the country and has yet to allow an opponent to score 20 points. If Ohio State didn’t have an extra week to prepare then Penn State would probably be favored. The weather looks iffy for this game so I like Penn State to win with their defense.
