Strength of schedule:

Penn State is (3-0) with victories over Akron, Pittsburgh, and Georgia State.  Iowa is (3-0) with wins over Wyoming, Iowa State, and North Texas.

Summary:

Penn State is riding high after their 56-0 blowout victory over Georgia State.  Penn State outgained Georgia State 526-320 in total yardage.  It was shocking that Georgia State had possession of the ball for 17 more minutes than Penn State but failed to score any points.  Trace McSorely was 18-23 for 309 yards and four touchdowns.  Saquon Barkley only had 10 carries for 47 yards but had 4 receptions for 142 yards and a touchdown.  Penn State’s defense was dominant again pitching a shutout and forcing 5 turnovers.  Penn State ranks 2nd in the nation in fewest points allowed per game (4.7).

Iowa remains undefeated after defeating North Texas 31-14 on their home field.  Iowa outgained North Texas 435-305 in total yardage.  Iowa controlled the clock holding possession of the ball for more than double the time of North Texas.  Nathan Stanley 16-27 for 197 yards and two touchdowns.  The Hawkeyes rushed for 238 yards and two touchdowns on 59 carries.  Iowa ranks as a top 40 defense allowing (19.3) points per game.

Bottom Line:

Iowa’s has one of the better run defenses in college football and will look to bottle up Saquon Barkley.  Look for Penn State to attack through the air against a weak Iowa secondary and get Barkley involved that way.  Penn State has been dominant on defense and Iowa lacks the offensive playmakers to keep them honest.  I’m taking the Nittany Lions on the road.
