Summary:
Ottawa is currently riding a two-game winning streak after their 21-15 road victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Redblacks were outgained by the Tiger-Cats 383-338 in total yardage but they were able to get key stops when they needed to. Trevor Harris completed 23-35 passes for 228 yards in the victory. Ottawa totaled 65 rushing yards for the game and averaged only 3.2 yards per carry. Kicker Lewis Ward was the real star of the game connecting on seven field goals and accounting for all the points for the Redblacks. Ottawa’s defense was stingy turning in one of their best performances of the season. Ottawa is averaging 22.5 points per game (4th) and allowing 21.0 (2nd).
The Argonauts were blown out 40-14 in week 7 by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Toronto was outscored in every quarter as they were clearly outmatched on this day. James Franklin had a miserable game completing 20-31 passes for 236 yards and 3 interceptions. The Argonauts were able to have success in the running game totaling 157 yards and 2 touchdowns on 25 carries (6.3 average). Five turnovers for the Argonauts were too much to overcome as Toronto now leads the league in that category (13). The Argonauts’ secondary had no answer for the potent Winnipeg passing game who took advantage of great field position all night. Toronto is averaging 15.8 points per game (8th) and they rank 8th in points allowed (29.8).
Bottom Line:
Poor quarterback play has plagued the Argonauts all season as they have failed to eclipse the 20-point plateau once in a game. Ball security could be crucial in this match-up and Toronto has committed the most turnovers in the CFL. The Redblacks are a much more balanced team and should capitalize on Toronto’s mistakes.
