Overview:
On Thursday, October 19th, the (5-1) Kansas City Chiefs will be on the road to take on the (2-4) Oakland Raiders.
The Crowd:
“The Crowd” is projecting a final score of Chiefs 26.9 – Raiders 21.5 with an over/under of 48.4.
2017-18 Statistics (32 total teams):
Yards per game: Chiefs 387.0 (2nd) > Raiders 278.3 (30th)
Points per game: Chiefs 29.5 (2nd) > Raiders 20.7 (18th)
Turnover margin: Chiefs +7 > Raiders -2
Fewest yards allowed per game: Raiders 349.8 (23rd) > Chiefs 378.2 (29th)
Fewest Points allowed per game: Raiders 21.0 (12th) > Chiefs 21.7 (13th)
Summary:
The Chiefs finally suffered their first loss Sunday when the Steelers defeated them 19-13 on their home field. The Steelers outgained the Chiefs 439-251 in total yardage and had possession for nearly double the time. Alex Smith was 19-34 for 246 yards and one touchdown. Kareem Hunt was bottled up for 21 yards on 9 carries but did have 5 catches for 89 yards. Despite his poor performance, Hunt leads the NFL in rushing yards this season. The Chiefs didn’t have any success running the ball gaining only 28 yards on 15 carries. Kansas City has the 3rd best turnover margin (+7) in the league. The Chiefs (+47) have the best point differential in the NFL.
The Raiders have now lost four straight games after falling 17-16 at home to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers outgained the Raiders 343-274 in total yardage. Derek Carr was 21-30 for 171 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Carr’s two interceptions were a killer and he has to do a better job taking care of the football. The Raiders ran for 109 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Oakland’s defense turned in one of their better performances of the season but the offense couldn’t get in the end-zone. The Raiders (+10) rank 19th in the NFL in point differential.
Bottom Line:
The Raiders, having lost four straight, look like a far cry from the team that won twelve games last season. Kansas City has won five straight head to head games against the Raiders. Alex Smith has played like an MVP this season completing 73% of his passes with a sparkling 12/0 touchdown to interception ratio. The Chiefs haven’t lost back to back games in two years. I like Kansas City to cover the spread and win this one on the road.
