Summary:
Both teams find themselves on the verge of the playoffs but facing huge question marks at the quarterback position. After giving Brock Osweiler $80 million in the offseason to be their franchise quarterback, the Texans have now turned to Tom Savage. Osweiler was a turnover machine in his 14 starts, while Savage has yet to turn the ball over in his two appearances. Meanwhile, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota just had surgery to repair his broken leg and will miss the remainder of the season. Mariota was having an exceptional season but Tennessee has a capable backup in Matt Cassel. Cassel really struggled in their blowout loss last week to the Jaguars.
Both teams are (3-2) in their last five games. Tennessee is (4-3) at home while Houston is just (2-5) on the road this season. Houston has owned this match-up with Tennessee winning eight of the last nine head to head games. Without the dynamic Mariota at the helm, Tennessee’s offense is severely limited as they showed that last week. With two backup quarterbacks starting I expect points to be at a premium. Houston always plays well against Tennessee so I’ll give them the slight edge even on the road.
