Summary:
The Rockies enter the game 3rd in the league in runs per game (5.37) and 23rd in team earned run average (4.69). St. Louis ranks 21st in runs per game (4.56) and 5th in team ERA (3.85). The Rockies are (6-4) in their last ten games while the Cardinals are (5-5). These two teams have split the season series despite Colorado outscoring St. Louis 20-15. Rockies starter Jeff Hoffman (6-2, 5.10) has not pitched well this season and has yet to face the Cardinals in his career. Hoffman has pitched very well away from Coors Field (4-0, 2.45).
St. Louis will have their ace Carlos Martinez (6-8, 3.34) on the mound. The Rockies have had success against Martinez batting a combined .329 off the righty. Martinez is (4-3, 2.90) at home this season. Martinez only receives 3.9 runs per game when he pitches which is the 10th lowest in Major League Baseball. St. Louis is (27-24) at home this season whereas Colorado is (27-24) on the road. Hoffman has allowed four or more runs in each of his last three starts so I think the Cardinals have the advantage in this one.
