Summary:
The Red Sox enter the game 10th in the league in runs per game (4.76) and 3rd in team earned run average (3.65). Cleveland ranks 8th in runs per game (4.80) and 4th in team ERA (3.70). The Red Sox are rolling right now going (8-2) in their last ten games while the Indians are just (4-6). Boston is (2-0) against Cleveland this season outscoring them 18-12. Red Sox starter Doug Fister (2-5, 5.03) has struggled after joining the team mid-season. Indians hitters are batting a combined .260 against Fister in 192 at-bats. Fister is (2-3, 4.33) at Fenway Park and (2-3, 4.38) since the All-Star break.
The Indians will start the inconsistent Trevor Bauer (10-8, 4.79) on the mound. The Red Sox hitters are batting a combined .300 against Bauer albeit in only 40 total at-bats. Bauer has been awful away from home (3-5, 6.69) this season but has pitched much better (3-1, 3.25) since the All-Star break. Cleveland has struggled to score runs in recent weeks and injuries to Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis, and Lonnie Chisenhall have depleted their lineup. The addition of Jay Bruce should provide some much-needed power. Boston is (36-20) at home this season whereas Cleveland is (30-25) on the road. The Red Sox should be able to take advantage of the injury plagued Tribe and win this one at home.
