Overview:

On Saturday, September 16th, the (2-0) Clemson Tigers will be on the road to take on the (2-0) Louisville Cardinals.

The Crowd:

The Crowd projects a final score of Clemson 36.2 – Louisville 29.2 with an over/under of 65.4.

2017-18 Statistics (127 total teams):

Passing offense: Louisville 385.5 YPG > Clemson 248.5 YPG

Rushing offense: Louisville 229.0 YPG > Clemson 226.0 YPG

Scoring offense: Louisville 41.0 PPG > Clemson 35.0 PPG

Scoring defense: Clemson 4.5 PPG > Louisville 31.5 PPG

Passing defense: Clemson 40.0 YPG > Louisville 338.5 YPG

Rushing defense: Louisville 34.0 YPG > Clemson 78.5 YPG

Turnover Margin Per Game: Louisville +0.5 > Clemson -1.5

Strength of schedule:

Clemson is (2-0) with wins over Kent State and Auburn.  Louisville is (2-0) with wins over Purdue and North Carolina.

Summary:

Louisville enters the game ranking 5th in total offense (615.0 yards per game).  They return the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Lamar Jackson who is certainly the focal point.  Jackson was dominant in the win over North Carolina accounting for 525 yards and 6 touchdowns.  Louisville will find points much tougher to come by against a Clemson defense that ranks 1st in passing yards allowed (40.0) and 5th in fewest points allowed (4.5).  Louisville is really missing their All-American cornerback Jaire Alexander who was injured in the Purdue game.  The Cardinals could certainly use Alexander against Clemson because their secondary has not fared well thus far.

Clemson’s defense was again dominant holding their opponent under double digits.  Kelly Bryant has done a good job manning the quarterback position after DeShaun Watson left for the NFL.  Bryant has been a factor in the ground game as had had 19 carries and two rushing touchdowns in the win over Auburn.  The Clemson running backs produced very little against Auburn and will need to step up.  Louisville’s defense has been very stout against the run allowing the 2nd fewest rush yards per game.  Bryant will have to air it out against a secondary that has been vulnerable.

Bottom Line:

Jackson torched Clemson’s defense a year ago but Louisville still lost 42-36.  Clemson should have a better game-plan against Jackson this time around and their defense is much better.  Barring several key turnovers, Clemson should win this game on the road.
