Summary:
Washington finished the 2016 season with a (8-7-1) record and just missed out on the playoffs. The Redskins (+13) ranked 17th in point differential. Kirk Cousins had a career season throwing for nearly 5,000 yards and 25 touchdowns. The Redskins lost their top two wide receivers (Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon) who both amassed over 1,000 yards. Washington got a coup signing free agent Terrelle Pryor to a cheap one-year deal. A healthy Jordan Reed could make a case as the best tight end in the league. First round pick Jonathan Allen should be a force in the middle of the defensive line in year one. The Redskins were one of the most prolific offensive units last year but will need to see significant improvement from their defense to make a run at the playoffs.
Cincinnati was one of the most disappointing teams last season finishing with a (6-9-1) record and missed the playoffs for the first time in five seasons. The Bengals (+10) ranked 18th in point differential. Cincinnati decimated their offensive line by letting Andrew Whitworth and Kevin Zeitler leave in free agency. Drafting explosive playmakers John Ross and Joe Mixon should be a boost for the offense but much of their success is dependent on how well the new look line plays. Healthy seasons from A.J. Green and Tyler Eifert are crucial. Andy Dalton played in all 16 games but took a step back last season throwing for only 18 touchdowns. Cincinnati’s defense was a top ten unit last year and didn’t suffer any major losses. I expect the starters will play the majority of the all-important third preseason game and I think that favors Washington.
