Summary:
Chelsea won the premier league last season with a (30-5-3) record. Chelsea’s big offseason addition was striker Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid. Morata has already made an immediate impact scoring in his debut. Obviously, Chelsea didn’t need to make major changes when they had the best team, but each season provides its own unique challenges. Chelsea ranked 2nd in goals scored last season (84) and 3rd in fewest goals allowed (33). Chelsea is very well balanced and their depth is what separates them. Chelsea also reunited with David Luiz who was a staple for years as a center back. Gone for Chelsea are Nemanja Matic and Juan Cuadrado who were both major contributors. Chelsea suffered an embarrassing 3-2 loss to Burnley in their season opener.
Tottenham finished second in the premier league last season with a (26-4-8) record. Returning is the EPL’s leading goal scorer Harry Kane (29). Tottenham led the EPL in goals scored in 2016 with (86) and goals allowed (26). It was a quiet offseason for Tottenham but they have a roster loaded with young talent ready to take on bigger roles. The one significant loss for Tottenham was right back Kyle Walker who played very well in that role. Tottenham shut out Newcastle 2-0 on the road in their opening game. Chelsea was down to nine men by the end of their loss to Burnley so I don’t expect that to happen again. Tottenham is currently playing their home games at Wembley Stadium so this game will be more of a neutral field. This is significant because Tottenham has a 14-game home winning streak at White Hart Lane. This game will likely end in a draw but if you twist my arm Chelsea rebounds with a 2-1 victory.
