Summary:
The Panthers looked impressive in their 33-30 road victory over the New England Patriots. The Panthers outgained the Patriots 444-373 in total yardage. Cam Newton was 22-29 for 316 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. The Panthers rushing attack totaled 140 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. Carolina’s defense came into the game allowing the fewest points in the league but were unable to do anything to slow down the explosive Patriots offense. The Panthers (+8) rank 15th in the NFL in point differential.
Detroit’s defense was excellent in their 14-7 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions were outgained by the Vikings 284-251 in total yardage. Matthew Stafford was 19-31 for 209 yards. The Lions running game combined for 97 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. Detroit’s defense was able to force three turnovers which proved to be the difference in the game. The Lions (+29) rank 5th in the NFL in point differential.
Bottom Line:
The Panthers have been so up and down this season looking awful against the Saints then beating the Patriots on the road. The Lions have a huge (+14) advantage in turnover margin. Turnovers will prove costly for Carolina as Detroit wins a close one at home.
