The Crowd

“The Crowd” projects a final score of Washington 31.2 – California 26.8 with an over/under of 58.0.

2016-17 Statistics (127 total teams):

Passing offense: California 365.6 YPG > Washington 249.9 YPG

Rushing offense: Washington 224.0 YPG > California 170.9 YPG

Scoring offense: Washington 46.1 PPG > California 41.3 PPG

Scoring defense: Washington 15.8 PPG > California 41.8 PPG

Passing defense: Washington 171.9 YPG > California 219.3 YPG

Rushing defense: Washington 153.9 YPG > California 286.6 YPG

Turnover Margin Per Game: Washington +1.4 > California +0.4

Strength of schedule:

Washington is (8-0) with wins over Utah, Rutgers, Idaho, Portland State, Arizona, Stanford, and Oregon.  California is (4-4) with wins over Hawaii, Texas, Utah, and Oregon.  They were defeated by San Diego State, Arizona State, Oregon State, and USC.

Summary:

California’s high powered offense overages the 8th most yards per game so the Huskies defense will have their hands full.  Cal’s quarterback Davis Webb is one of the best in the country and surely has an NFL future someday.  The Golden Bears have one of the best passing attacks and I expect they will put up yards and points even against a tough Washington defense.  The problem for California is they are statistically one of the five worse defenses in college football allowing over 40 points per game.  Washington is rated as a top ten team both offensively and defensively.  Huskies quarterback Jake Browning has opened eyes and positioned himself as a legitimate Heisman candidate.  This will be one of the tougher tests on the road for Washington but I think they come out on top because California’s defense is so poor.
