Summary:

Cleveland has been one of the league’s highest scoring teams all season, but their defense has been atrocious. The Cavaliers are (5-5) since Isaiah Thomas rejoined the team and are allowing 119.7 points per game when he plays.  Thomas still doesn’t look close to being healthy shooting just 39.3% from the field and 27.4% from three.  Lebron James (26.8 PPG, 7.9 RPG, and 8.8 RPG) has is having one of his finest seasons at age 33 while Kevin Love (18.2 PPG and 9.6 RPG) remains as consistent as ever.  Head coach Tyronn Lue finally ended the disastrous Kevin Love at center experiment and Tristan Thompson has played much better since rejoining the starting lineup.  Dwyane Wade leads a bench unit that ranks 5^th in the NBA in scoring (40.8 PPG).  The Cavaliers average 109.7 points per game (5^th) while allowing 109.6 (26^th).

Detroit is in a complete free fall going just (1-9) in their last ten games.  The Pistons lack a number one scoring option but they have been one of the league’s better defensive teams all season.  Andre Drummond (14.7 PPG and 15.1 RPG) remains a force in the middle and was perhaps the biggest all-star snub this year.  Avery Bradley is perhaps the league’s best perimeter defender and was sorely missed in Detroit’s 121-104 loss in Cleveland.  Tobias Harris (18.1 PPG and 5.1 RPG) is having a breakout season  shooting a career high (40.9%) from three-point range.  The Pistons have done a great job eliminating turnovers and forcing them defensively. The Pistons average 102.3 points per game (24^th) and allow 102.5 PPG (7^th).

*UPDATE: The Pistons have traded Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, and Boban Marjanovich to the Los Angeles Clippers for Blake Griffin.

Bottom Line:

The Cavaliers have been the hardest team to predict this season evidenced by a whopping (14-33-1) record against the spread.  Detroit is (13-10) at home this season while Cleveland is (11-13) on the road.  The Pistons just gutted their roster to acquire Blake Griffin so they will surely be shorthanded for Tuesday’s game.  The Cavaliers look to be finally coming out of their January slump and a Pistons team riding an eight-game losing streak is the perfect elixir.
