Overview:
On Sunday, December 31st, the (7-8) Washington Redskins will be on the road to take on the (2-13) New York Giants.
The Crowd:
“The Crowd” is projecting a final score of Redskins 24.8 – Giants 19.2 with an over/under of 43.9.
2017-18 Statistics (32 total teams):
Yards per game: Redskins 333.5 (15th) > Giants 309.5 (23rd)
Points per game: Redskins 22.1 (14th) > Giants 15.2 (31st)
Turnover margin: Redskins -2 > Giants -5
Fewest yards allowed per game: Redskins 345.7 (21st) > Giants 384.9 (32nd)
Fewest Points allowed per game: Redskins 24.7 (26th) > Giants 25.2 (29th)
Summary:
The Redskins have won two straight games but are (4-6) in their last ten games. The Redskins defeated the Denver Broncos 27-11 in Washington on Sunday. The Redskins outgained the Broncos 386-330 in total yardage. Kirk Cousins was 19-37 for 299 yards with 3 touchdowns and one interception. Washington had trouble running the football totaling 87 yards on 29 carries (3.0 average). The Redskins defense played well forcing the Broncos into three turnovers which really changed the momentum. Washington (-38) ranks 17th in the NFL in point differential.
The Giants are currently on a five-game losing streak after losing 23-0 to the Cardinals in Arizona. The Giants actually outgained the Cardinals 293-289 in total yardage but couldn’t put any points on the board. Eli Manning was 27-45 for 263 yards and two interceptions. The Giants running game was dismal totaling just 43 yards on 20 carries (2.2 average). Manning’s offensive weapons have been depleted and the Giants inability to run the football has made them completely one dimensional. The Giants (-150) rank 31st in the NFL in point differential.
Bottom Line:
The Redskins have won three of their last four head to head games against the Giants including a 20-10 victory in Washington earlier this season. The Redskins should be able to effectively run the football and control the time of possession. Turnovers have plagued the Giants all season and could play a key role in determining the outcome of this one. I’s taking Cousins and the Redskins to win and cover the (-5.6) spread.
