Overview:
On Thursday, November 23rd, the (2-8) New York Giants will be on the road to take on the (4-6) Washington Redskins.
The Crowd:
“The Crowd” is projecting a final score of Redskins 27.5 – Giants 18.2 with an over/under of 45.7.
2017-18 Statistics (32 total teams):
Yards per game: Redskins 359.4 (9th) > Giants 308.5 (24th)
Points per game: Redskins 23.8 (12th) > Giants 16.2 (30th)
Turnover margin: Redskins 0 = Giants 0
Fewest yards allowed per game: Redskins 363.6 (24th) > Giants 396.6 (31st)
Fewest Points allowed per game: Giants 24.7 (21st) > Redskins 26.6 (31st)
Summary:
The Redskins are struggling having lost four of their last five games. Washington suffered a 34-31 overtime loss in New Orleans last week. The Saints outgained the Redskins 535-456 in total yardage. Kirk Cousins was excellent going 22-32 for 322 yards and three touchdowns. Samaje Perine had 23 carries for 117 yards and a touchdown (5.1 average). Washington’s defense was unable to slow down Drew Brees who threw for nearly 400 yards and the Saints running game averaged 7.0 yards per carry. Washington (-28) ranks 18th in the NFL in point differential.
The Giants are obviously going through a rough season with a (2-8) record. The Giants were able to end a three-game losing streak with a 12-9 overtime victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Giants were able to win despite being outgained by the Chiefs 363-317 in total yardage and losing the possession battle by seven minutes. Eli Manning was 19-35 for 205 yards. The Giants totaled 112 rushing yards and a touchdown on 32 carries (3.5 average). The Giants played their best defensive game of the season holding a potent Chiefs team to nine points and forcing three turnovers. The Giants (-85) rank 29th in the NFL in point differential.
Bottom Line:
The Giants are coming off an impressive win over a quality opponent but they have struggled to score points all year (16.2 PPG). Eli Manning is void of playmakers Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall which has really hurt their offense. The Redskins defense has been their achilles heel allowing 30 or more points in four of their last five games but a weak Giants offense may be the elixir they need. Kirk Cousins has really been playing well and should be able to exploit a Giants secondary that allows the fourth most passing yards per game (263.9). I’ll take the Redskins to win but I’m not sure they’ll cover the (-9.3).
