Summary:
The Seahawks saw their four-game winning streak come to an end with a 17-14 home loss to the Washington Redskins. This was a disappointing loss for the Seahawks considering they outgained the Redskins 437-244 in total yardage. Russell Wilson was 24-45 for 297 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Wilson also carried the ball 10 times for 77 yards but the two interceptions proved to be their ultimate undoing. Eddie Lacy was injured in the game but Thomas Rawls was effective in his absence. Doug Baldwin had a big game with 7 catches for 108 yards and a touchdown. The Seahawks defense played very well but their offense was unable to put points on the board. Seattle (+40) ranks 8th in the NFL in point differential.
The Cardinals traveled to San Francisco and defeated the 49ers 20-10. Arizona outgained the 49ers 368-329 in total yardage and dominated the time of possession by 13 minutes. The Cardinals were without their starting quarterback Carson Palmer but Drew Stanton filled in nicely. Stanton was 15-30 for 201 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Adrian Peterson seems to have found the fountain of youth with Arizona after his midseason trade from the Saints. Peterson was a workhorse Sunday carrying the ball 37 times for 159 yards. Arizona’s defense was terrific holding the 49ers to just ten points. The Cardinals (-62) rank 26th in the NFL in point differential.
Bottom Line:
With the injury to Carson Palmer Arizona will lean heavily on Adrian Peterson to carry the offense. Peterson will find holes much tougher to come by against a tough Seattle defense. After shouldering 37 carries on Sunday it will be interesting to see Peterson’s workload on a short week. I expect Seattle to shut down the run and force Drew Stanton to beat them through the air. For all the attention the Seahawks defense gets their offense has been great thus far. I expect Seattle to get a win in Arizona and cover the spread.
