Summary:

In a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl, the Falcons travel to New England to take on the Patriots.   The Patriots have won two straight games after beating the New York Jets 24-17 on the road.  The Jets actually outgained the Patriots 408-375 in total yardage and won the possession battle by eight minutes.  Tom Brady was 20-38 for 257 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.  New England ran the ball 25 times for 118 yards and a touchdown.  Rob Gronkowski hauled in two touchdowns in the victory.  After being completely shredded early in the season, the Patriots defense has held the opposition to fewer than twenty points in back to back weeks.  The Patriots (+13) rank 11th in the NFL. In point differential.

After winning their first three games the Falcons have now dropped two straight.  Atlanta hosted the Miami Dolphins and blew a 17-point lead on their way to a 20-17 loss.  Atlanta outgained Miami 339-289 in total yardage but the Dolphins had the ball for the majority of the game.  Matt Ryan was 24-35 for 248 yards with one touchdown and one interception.   The Falcons garnered 100 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.  The Falcons (+12) rank 12th in the NFL in point differential.

Bottom Line:

The Patriots seem to have put their early season defensive woes behind them to go along with their league leading offense.  New England seems to be rounding into form as Atlanta is falling apart.  Tom Brady is playing at an MVP level completing 65.7% of his passes with a terrific 13/2 touchdown to interception ratio.  Meanwhile, Matt Ryan seems to be really struggling without the creative play-calling of Kyle Shannahan.  I’m anticipating a close game, but the Patriots will win it in the end.
