On Monday, October 9th, the (2-2) Minnesota Vikings will be on the road to take on the (1-3) Chicago Bears.
The Crowd:
“The Crowd” is projecting a final score of Vikings 23.3 – Bears 21.4 with an over/under of 44.7.
2017-18 Statistics (32 total teams):
Yards per game: Vikings 371.2 (6th) > Bears 306.2 (23rd)
Points per game: Vikings 19.8 (19th) > Bears 15.2 (29th)
Turnover margin: Vikings -1 > Bears -7
Fewest yards allowed per game: Bears 306.2 (9th) > Vikings 318.0 (12th)
Fewest Points allowed per game: Vikings 19.0 (8th) > Bears 26.0 (27th)
Summary:
The Bears were blown out by the green Bay Packers 35-14 on the road last week. The Bears actually outgained the Packers 308-260 in total yardage but four turnovers were too much to overcome. Mike Glennon was 21-33 for 218 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Chicago is replacing Glennon this week with number two overall pick Mitch Trubisky. Jordan Howard managed only 53 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Chicago’s defense was picked apart by Aaron Rodgers but there’s no shame in that. The Bears (-43) rank 30th in the NFL in point differential.
Minnesota’s offense was in shambles in their 14-7 loss to the Detroit Lions. The Vikings outgained the Lions 284-251 in total yardage but Minnesota turned the ball over three times. Starting quarterback Sam Bradford sat out with injury and is questionable for the game against Chicago. Case Keenum started in Bradford’s absence and was 16-30 for 219 yards. Minnesota combined for 87 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. The Vikings suffered another blow when running back Dalvin Cook suffered a season ending injury. Minnesota’s defense played well but their offense has to contribute more. The Vikings (+3) rank 17th in the NFL in point differential.
Bottom Line:
If Bradford was healthy it would be a no brainer to pick the Vikings in this one. Trubisky will be making his first NFL start against one of the league’s top ten defenses. This will likely be a low scoring game with each team having major question marks at the quarterback position. Defense will surely dominate and Minnesota is better equipped to win that type of game.
