Summary:
The Royals enter the game 21st in the league in runs per game (4.45) and 14th in team earned run average (4.41). The Royals are (6-4) in their last ten games. Cleveland is (32-28) at home this season whereas Kansas City is (29-32) on the road. These two teams have split the season series (6-6) despite Cleveland outscoring Kansas City 53-40 in those games. Royals starter Jason Hammel (6-9, 4.73) has held Indians hitters to a combined .234 average against in 137 at-bats. Edwin Encarnacion is a player to watch with 4 homers in 27 at-bats against Hammel. Hammel is (2-4, 4.87) on the road this season and (2-1, 4.13) since the All-Star break.
Cleveland ranks 8th in runs per game (4.84) and 3rd in team ERA (3.65). The Indians are (7-3) in their last ten games despite suffering a myriad of injuries. Lonnie Chisenhall, Andrew Miller, Josh Tomlin, Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis, Danny Salazar all have injuries. Cleveland will Mike Clevinger (6-5, 3.97) on the mound who has impressed in his first full time stint with the club. Royals hitters are batting a combined .217 against Clevinger in 60 total at-bats. Clevinger has not pitched well at home (1-2, 5.45) this season and has struggled (1-2, 6.04) since the All-Star break. With the Indians so banged up and Clevinger pitching poorly, I like the Royals to win this one on the road.
