Summary:
The Mariners enter the game ranked 11th in runs per game (4.85) and 22nd in team earned run average (4.68). The Angels rank 24th in runs per game (4.29) and 8th in team ERA (4.08). Both teams are (6-4) in their last ten games. The Angels are (4-2) against the Mariners this season outscoring them despite being outscored 37-36 in those games. Angles starter Ricky Nolasco (3-9, 4.86) has not pitched well this season and has allowed five or more runs in two of his last three starts. Mariners hitters are batting a combined .313 off of Nolasco. Both Robinson Cano (.412) and Nelson Cruz (.333) have had great success against Nolasco with 3 homers apiece off of him.
Mariners starter Ariel Miranda (6-4, 4.11) has thrown six or more innings in for of his last five starts. Miranda has dominated Angels hitters holding them to a combined .208 average against. Los Angeles is (22-16) at home this season while Seattle is (14-24) on the road. I think this will be a high scoring game as Nolasco struggles at home (6.08 ERA) and Miranda (6.58 ERA) hasn’t exactly been a road warrior. Give the Angels credit for remaining in the hunt despite the injury to superstar Mike Trout. I think the Mariners have the more potent lineup right now and can outslug the Angels in this one.
