Rushing defense: Stanford 150.3 YPG > California 283.4 YPG
Turnover Margin Per Game: California +0.1 > Stanford -0.1
Strength of schedule:
Stanford is (7-3) with wins over Kansas State, USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Arizona, Oregon State, and Oregon. They were defeated by Washington, Washington State, and Colorado. California is (4-6) with wins over Hawaii, Texas, Utah, and Oregon. Their losses came against San Diego State, Arizona State, Oregon State, USC, Washington, and Washington State.
Summary:
California enters the game having lost three straight while Stanford has won three straight. California has the worst defense in the FBS allowing over 45 points per game. Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey should have a field day against a California defense that allows nearly 300 yards per game on the ground. California has one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Davis Webb who should be able to exploit a poor Stanford secondary. Stanford is not quite as bad in the secondary as some of the numbers may indicate because their two starting cornerbacks were injured for half the season. Stanford is finally hitting their stride again after a tough stretch in the midst of their season. I like Stanford to take this one on the road.
