2016-17 Statistics (127 total teams):

Rushing offense: Virginia Tech 195.5 YPG > UNC 136.0 YPG

Rushing defense: Virginia Tech 113.5 YPG > UNC 236.8 YPG

Turnover Margin Per Game: UNC -0.3 > Virginia Tech -0.7

Strength of schedule:

North Carolina is (4-1) with wins over Illinois, James Madison, Pittsburgh, and Florida State.  Their only loss came on the road against ranked Georgia.  Virginia Tech is (3-1) with wins over Liberty, Boston College, and East Carolina.  Their lone defeat came against ranked Tennessee.

Summary:

Virginia Tech has played a very weak schedule so far and their season stats are inflated because of it.  Their one real test was a blowout against Tennessee on national television.  North Carolina has one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Mitch Trubisky.  In fact, UNC is averaging over 500 yards of offense and 40 points per game against quality competition.  I think this will be a high scoring game and I favor naorth Carolina at home.
