Summary:
Oklahoma State is (5-4) with wins over Missouri State, South Alabama, #17 Boise State, Kansas, and #6 Texas. They were defeated by Texas Tech, Iowa State, Kansas State, and Baylor. Oklahoma State’s defense simply could not get stops in the second half of last week’s 35-31 road loss to Baylor. The Cowboys rank 17th in points per game (38.3) and 83rd in scoring defense (29.9 PPG). Quarterback Taylor Cornelius has completed 59% of his passes for 2,622 yards with 20 touchdowns to 8 interceptions. Running back Justice Hill has rushed for 895 yards and 8 touchdowns. Tylan Wallace is fourth in the nation in receiving yards with 1,062 to go along with his 7 touchdowns. The Cowboys’ defense ranks 87th against the pass (245.1 YPG) and 55th against the run (151.2 YPG).
Oklahoma is (8-1) with victories over Florida Atlantic, UCLA, Iowa State, Army, Baylor, TCU, Kansas State, and Texas Tech. Their lone defeat was a 48-45 loss to the rival #19 Texas Longhorns. Oklahoma is coming off a 51-46 shootout win over Texas Tech. The Sooners rank 3rd in points per game (49.1) and 74th in scoring defense (27.9 PPG). Quarterback Kyler Murray is in the discussion for the Heisman Trophy after completing 70% of his passes for 2,689 yards with 31 touchdowns to 5 interceptions. Murray is also the team’s second leading rusher with 574 yards and 7 touchdowns. Trey Sermon, filling in for the injured Rodney Anderson, has rushed for 722 yards and 8 touchdowns. Oklahoma has a pair of excellent receivers in Marquise “Hollywood” Brown (814 yards, 7 touchdowns) and CeeDee Lamb (725 yards. 9 touchdowns). The Sooners’ defense ranks 90th against the pass (247.0 YPG) and 46th against the run (144.1 YPG).
Bottom Line:
The Bedlam Series has been historically dominated by the Sooners who have won 13 of their last 15 against the Cowboys. Both teams have explosive offenses and suspect defenses so this should be a classic Big-12 shootout. Oklahoma State has been prone to turnovers and that will play a key factor in determining the outcome. Kyler Murray’s dual threat ability will be the difference as the Sooners win at home.
Oklahoma wins 48-38
