On Monday, April, 4th at 9:19 P.M. the (1) North Carolina Tar Heels will take on the (2) Villanova Wildcats in the 2016 NCAA Basketball Championship Game.  “The Crowd” projects a final score of North Carolina 81.2 – Villanova 79 with an over/under of 160.2.  The Vegas line has a final score of North Carolina 77 – Villanova 74 with an over under of 151.  The Wildcats are (34-5) on the season whereas the Tar Heels are (33-6).

Scoring Margin: Villanova +13.9 North Carolina +12

Points per game:  North Carolina 82.4 Villanova 77.5

Points allowed per game:  Villanova 63.6 North Carolina 69.4

Field Goal Percentage Offense:  North Carolina 47.8% Villanova 47.4%

Three Point Percentage: Villanova 35.1% North Carolina 31.4%

Free Throw Percentage: Villanova 77.5% North Carolina 74.2%

Field Goal Percentage Defense: Villanova 40.1% North Carolina 41%

Turnovers committed per game: North Carolina 10.9 Villanova 11.2

Turnovers forced per game: Villanova 13.8 North Carolina 13.1

Rebounds per game: North Carolina 43.6 Villanova 37.6

Assists per game: North Carolina 17.8 Villanova 16.5

Looking at the major statistical categories I see no distinct advantage for either team.  North Carolina has signature wins over eight ranked opponents: Maryland, UCLA, Duke, Miami, Virginia, Providence, Indiana, Notre Dame.   Villanova has signature wins against six ranked opponents: Xavier, Butler, Providence, Miami, Kansas, and Oklahoma.  The only real advantage either way is North Carolina has more size.  The Tar Heels average six more rebounds per game and their length could cause problems for Villanova inside.  I’m picking North Carolina to become the 2016 National Champions.
